Rules


European Championships 2014 will be played according to the Table Hockey Rules and organized according to the Tournament Rules of International Table Hockey Federation and ITHF EC Statement 2014/1.

At the European Championship only the European citizens (i.e. holders of passports of a European country) can participate.

Every European nation can send to the European Championship 10 players for OPEN category, 4 players for Ladies, 4 players for Junior (players who reach age of 18 years or less in the year 2014) and 4 players for Veterans (players who reach age of 40 years or more in the year 2014).

During a tournament at Open Team category up to 10 players can play. At Junior Team, Ladies Team and Veteran Team categories each up to 5 players can play. There is no rule forbidding having different players in team and individual categories.

Latvia as the organizing country can send to the European Championship 14 players for OPEN category, 5 players for Ladies, 5 players for Junior and 5 players for Veterans.

Ukraine as previously planned organizing country can also send to the European Championship 14 players for OPEN category, 5 players for Ladies, 5 players for Junior and 5 players for Veterans.

Defending champions in each category can participate at the European Championship in addition to limits described above.
Maxim Borisov from Russia has rights to defend his title of the European Champion.
Viktoria Laricheva from Russia has rights to defend her title of the European Champion in Ladies category.
Dryak Jan from the Czech Republic has rights to defend his title of the European Champion in Veteran category.

But European Champion in Junior category Maxim Borisov from Russia will not be able to defend his title since he is not junior (under 18 years old) anymore.

The best 10 players from the overall World Table Hockey Tour ranking of season 2013/2014 will get a direct nomination for the European championship 2014.
Up to 3 players from one nation can get this direct nomination. Direct nomination is not transferable to any player below 10th position at the WT ranking, but in case if Maxim Borisovwill be among top 10 of WTHT, then the 11th player from the WTHT table can get the direct nomination.
Of course WTHT direct nominations are valid only if player owns a valid passport from a European country.


Playing system – Open

Playing system for Open category basically differs only on the number of groups in the first round.

If number of players is up to 100:
1) players are seeded in to 4 groups for round-robin games;
2) the best players of of Groups A and C form Division 1A, but the best players of Groups B and D form Division 1B (60-64 players in total) where round-robin is played. Mutual results are counted. Other players form lower divisions (see table how many) without counting of mutual results;
3) the best 12 players of Division 1A play in basic play-off against the best 12 players of Division 1B; the best 4 players of lower divisions play their play-off.

If number of players is from 101 to 150:
1) players are seeded in to 6 groups for round-robin games;
2) the best 11 players of of Groups A, C and E form Division 1A, but the best 11 players of Groups B, D and F form Division 1B (66 players in total) where round-robin is played. Mutual results are counted. Other players form lower divisions (see table how many) without counting of mutual results;
3) the best 12 players of Division 1A play in basic play-off against the best 12 players of Division 1B; the best 4 players of lower divisions play their play-off.

If number of players is from 151 to 200:
1) players are seeded in to 8 groups for round-robin games;
2) the best 8 players of Groups A, C, E, G form Division 1A, but the best 8 players of Groups B, D, F, H form Division 1B (64 players in total) where round-robin is played. Mutual results are counted; Other players form lower divisions (see table how many) without counting of mutual results;
3) the best 12 players of Division 1A play in basic play-off against the best 12 players of Division 1B; the best 4 players of lower divisions play their play-off.

Playing system - Teams (all categories)

Playing system for Teams competition keeping sports principle.

In Open Teams tournament team has 5 players. Up to 10 players can be used during tournament.
In Ladies Teams tournament team has 3 players. Up to 5 players can be used during tournament.
In Junior Teams tournament team has 3 players. Up to 5 players can be used during tournament.
In Veteran Teams tournament team has 3 players. Up to 5 players can be used during tournament.

If number of teams is up to 6:
1) simple round-robin tournament;
2) play-off for top 4 teams and placement games.

If number of teams is 7 to 12:
1) teams are seeded in to 2 groups of equal strength and groups round-robin tournament is played;
2) top 4 teams of every group play in basic play-off, but other teams play placement play-off.

If number of teams is 13 to 16:
1) teams are seeded in to 4 groups of equal strength and groups round-robin tournament is played;
2) top 2 teams of group A play against top 2 teams of group C (form Division 1A; mutual games are counted);
top 2 teams of group B play against top 2 teams of group D (form Division 1B; mutual games are counted);
other 2 teams of group A play against other 2 teams of group C (form Division 2A; mutual games are counted);
other 2 teams of group B play against other 2 teams of group D (form Division 2B; mutual games are counted);
3) play-off in Division 1 is played for 1st-8th place, play-off in Division 2 is played for places 9th-16th.

If number of teams is 17 to 20:
Same as before, but 5th places of groups are playing placement round (Division 3) for places 17th-20th.

Playing system - Juniors, Veterans, Ladies

There is common playing system for Juniors, Veterans and Ladies categories.

If number of players in a tournament is less than 24:
1) all players play group (round-robin) games;
2) play-offs for 1st-8th place.

If number of players is between 24 and 38 (including):
1) players are seeded into 2 qualification groups.
2) after group (round-robin) games, the best 8 players from both groups form Division 1, the next 8 players of groups form Division 2, where they plays round-robin against players of other group. Division 1 mutual results from qualification group are counted, Division 2 mutual results are counted if there are more than 10 players.
3) the best 8 players of Division 1 play play-offs for 1st-8th place.

If number of players is between 39 and 60 (including):
1) players are seeded into 4 qualification groups.
2) after group (round-robin) games, the best 4 players from both groups form Division 1, the next 4 players of groups form Division 2 (and so on), where they plays round-robin against players of other group. Division 1 and 2 mutual results from qualification group are counted, Division 3 mutual results are counted if there are more than 10 players.
3) the best 8 players of Division 1 play play-offs for 1st-8th place.


Playing system - Juniors U13, Veterans O50

Tournament formula will be made according to a number of players. Tournaments will be 3-3.5h long.
